Ski & Snowboard Guide

 
  With 5 world-class ski resorts within a short drive, Canmore is the hub for skiing and snowboarding in the Canadian Rockies (jump to ski map). If you're planning on a skiing or snowboarding vacation in Western Canada, you'll want to check out some of the powder snow at Banff's Sunshine Village, Mount Norquay, Lake Louise, Fortress Mountain or Nakiska.

The ski and snowboard season starts around mid-November, and runs through till mid-May. The actual dates vary from season-to-season, and from hill-to-hill so make sure you call ahead. Whether you're looking for some easy gliding down gentle slopes, or all-out extreme adrenaline-pumping skiing or snowboarding, you'll find it within reach from Canmore, Alberta, Canada.

Sunshine Village ski in Banff

 
  Banff's Sunshine Village is easy to get to...ski and snowboard in the Canadian Rockies!

Sunshine Village is located 30km (18mi) west of Canmore just past Banff on Hwy #1, and just 150 km (90mi) west of Calgary - about and hour and a half drive. The Calgary International Airport is served by numerous, non-stop daily flights from major cities around the world.

  Ski Nakiska  
  Specifically designed to host the alpine events of the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics, the Nakiska Ski Resort continues to attract skiers from around the world.

Nakiska is a 30 minute drive east of Canmore, and a 45 minute drive west of Calgary in Kananaskis Provincial park.

  Ski Fortress Mountain  
  Fortress Mountain is an affordable place to take the family out on the slopes. The casual and relaxed resort offers wide-open cruising, serious bumps (training site for the Canadian Freestyle Team), large gladed areas, and natural half-pipes popular with snowboarders.

Fortress Mountain is located in Kananaskis Country about 45 minutes east of Canmore and an hour and fifteen minutes west of Calgary.

  Banff Mount Norquay's long-standing reputation for challenge is based on the first runs you see upon approaching the area: a quintet of super-steep, mogul-studded freefalls served by the original Norquay double chair.

Norquay is located in Banff, and is a 20 minute drive west of Canmore.
